The Birthday of Emily Dickinson...

657 I dwell in Possibility --  by Emily Dickinson

I dwell in Possibility—
A fairer House than Prose—
More numerous of Windows—
Superior—for Doors—

Of Chambers as the Cedars—
Impregnable of Eye—
And for an Everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky—

Of Visitors—the fairest—
For Occupation—This—
The spreading wide of narrow Hands
To gather Paradise—

Listen to the day on NPR.

505 I would not paint -- a picture -
by Emily Dickinson

I would not paint—a picture—
I'd rather be the One
Its bright impossibility
To dwell—delicious—on—
And wonder how the fingers feel
Whose rare—celestial—stir—
Evokes so sweet a Torment—
Such sumptuous—Despair—

I would not talk, like Comets—
I'd rather be the One
Raised softly to the Ceilings—
And out, and easy on—
Through Villages of Ether—
Myself endued Balloon
By but a lip of Metal—
The pier to my Pontoon—

Nor would I be a Poet—
It's finer—own the Ear—
Enamored—impotent—content—
The License to revere.
A privilege so awful
What would the Dower be,
Had I the Art to stun myself
With Bolts of Melody!

One Prayer Answered....

If I could have just one wish granted.
If I could have just one prayer answered.
This would be that wish, this would be that prayer.
Nothing bad must happen to her

Let me take the time to tell her.
Everything that I should tell her.
How I need her more and more, how I'm glad she came along...

Nothing bad must happen to her.
In the cell of the night.
Holding on so tight...

Psalm 34:4...

Dec. 6th...

Today is the feast day of St. Nicholas. The figure of Santa Claus comes from St. Nick, who in turn comes from the real-life St. Nicholas, a fourth-century bishop from Myra, in what is now Turkey. In many parts of the world, today is the day that children get gifts — on the evening of December 5th, they might put out shoes and get small gifts like fruit, coins, or toys.

A friend...

The Heart Cannot Forget...

                                 What the Heart Cannot Forget
                                                       by Joyce Sutphen
Everything remembers something. The rock, its fiery bed,
cooling and fissuring into cracked pieces, the rub
of watery fingers along its edge.

The cloud remembers being elephant, camel, giraffe,
remembers being a veil over the face of the sun,
gathering itself together for the fall.

The turtle remembers the sea, sliding over and under
its belly, remembers legs like wings, escaping down
the sand under the beaks of savage birds.

The tree remembers the story of each ring, the years
of drought, the floods, the way things came
walking slowly towards it long ago.

And the skin remembers its scars, and the bone aches
where it was broken. The feet remember the dance,
and the arms remember lifting up the child.

The heart remembers everything it loved and gave away,
everything it lost and found again, and everyone
it loved, the heart cannot forget.

Hymn...Nov. 22, 1963

Hymn
by Edgar Allan Poe

... Public domain...

At morn—at noon—at twilight dim—
Maria! thou hast heard my hymn!
In joy and woe—in good and ill—
Mother of God, be with me still!
When the Hours flew brightly by,
And not a cloud obscured the sky,
My soul, lest it should truant be,
Thy grace did guide to thine and thee;
Now, when storms of Fate o'ercast
Darkly my Present and my Past,
Let my Future radiant shine
"With sweet hopes of thee and thine!

Celtic Prayer...

Celtic Friendship's Prayer

In the eye of the Father who created me,
In the eye of the Son who purchased me,
In the eye of the Spirit who cleansed me,
In friendship and affection.
Through Thine own Anointed One, O God,
Bestow upon us fullness in our need,
Love towards God,
The affection of God,
The smile of God,
The wisdom of God.
The grace of God,
The fear of God,
And the will of God
To do on the world of the Three,
As angels and saints
Do in heaven;
Each shade and light,
Each day and night,
Each time in kindness,
Give Thou us Thy Spirit.

Tomorrow is "Surgery Day".  I believe I will be happy to have something done I should have had done 20 years ago. I think my graphic says it.

MY Rock!

This was one rock until Auntie Em decided
to rid her driveway of the cause of seasickness.
The pink thing near my foot is a yardstick (3 feet).  Gives you an idea of the size of the piece of Rutherford County that I removed.  It was between 4 inches and 12 inches deep.  Sledgehammer until crack appears in limestone and pry it apart.  Not at easy as it sounds, but I did it with the help of Submariner hammering the prybar into the crack.  On to more lawnmower blade eaters!

#Longmire...

Robert Taylor: "Walt Longmire"  A&E TV next year season 3.

What he loved in horses was what he loved in men, the blood and the heat of the blood that ran with them. All his reverence and all his fondness and all the leanings of his life were for the ardenthearted and they would always be so and never be otherwise.

Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

Hurricane Camille...

August 17, 1969...Hurricane Camille.  I still wonder why we didn't change her middle name to Camille?  I remember that hospital ward in Quantico Naval Hospital.  We gathered at the windows to watch rescue helicopters land on the grounds.  They were picking up survivors from the flooded James River and bringing them to Quantico.  We had no idea how bad things were south of Prince William County.  All we knew were our sweet new babies in the nursery down the hall.

Ah yes, things were different then, and now.  She's grown into an awesome Veterinary Technician.  The pic is of her with one of her favorite and largest feline clients.  Happy Birthday my sweet girl.  We love you!

Fidelity to love...

Your fidelity to love, that is all you need.
No day will then match your strength,
What was once a fear or problem will see
you coming, and step aside...or run.

Hoof problem...

My baby boy, "Tiger" (who just turned 23 on my birthday) has a sad white hoof.  The farrier accidentally cut it and it bled like crazy.  Turns out it's something not like what people get called a "canker" but it can turn into cancer.  I hate mud and we have had too much of it.  Tiger stood around in a muddy pasture area to eat his hay. (He won't come in the barn to eat it most days)

We're working very hard with him to keep this getting better.  It already looks better.

Into the darkness...

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have
and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown,
you must believe that one of two things will happen:

There will be something for you to stand upon,
or, you will be taught to fly."

         ~Patrick Overton~
